On Saturday, October 10 Sassari will dedicate the day to cuisine and local traditions, with events at the Teatro Civico, Palazzo Ducale and in the historic center. The program combines the round table “Identità in cucina” with the third edition of A fora li brasgeri, a citywide barbecue organized by the municipal authorities with the Eat&Buffas association.

The program: discussion and cuisine

At 9:30 a.m., at the Teatro Civico, the discussion will focus on gastronomy as an element of identity and a potential resource for tourism. The meeting will be moderated by Giuseppe Melis, Marketing lecturer at the University of Cagliari, and Jessica Cani, an enogastronomic communications consultant. Greetings will be given by Mayor Giuseppe Mascia, Culture Councillor Nicoletta Puggioni and Giusy Mura, president of CCN Stelle del Centro. Speakers will include chef Fabio Zago, journalist and food writer Giovanni Fancello, historian Paolo Cau, and representatives from the local education and business communities. Admission is free, with registration through Identità in vetrina’s social media channels.

After the round table, in the courtyard of Palazzo Ducale, Fabio Zago and chef Pietro Canu will cook alongside students from the hotel and catering school. The lunch, with limited seating, features dishes that reinterpret local ingredients and recipes; the announced menu includes fainè, gnocchetti, chickpeas and prawns, and crème brûlée. The municipal authorities had planned for 50 places, with tickets costing €45 for lunch or €60 for an option that also includes the evening tastings. Creations by Sassari ceramic artist Viola Cusimano will be displayed on the tables.

Grills, music and practical information

From 6:30 p.m. the barbecue will feature ten stations across nine locations, arranged along two routes, red and blue. Around a hundred members of the city’s clubs will prepare specialties such as zimino, capocollo, vegetables, pancetta, horse meat, salsiccione and roasted lumaconi. Sintonia, Sassari Vecciu and Mauro Galleri will perform in Piazza Azuni; Zeppara and Cantendi Sassari are scheduled at Porta Sant’Antonio. The Sonos de Manos concert is also scheduled for Friday, October 9, at 9 p.m. in Piazza Azuni.
