The staff of the Sassari AOU will go on strike on Thursday 8 October and Friday the 9th, in a protest called by the trade union organisations and the Rsu. The protest will take place in Cagliari and Sassari and, according to the organisation, will involve all its employees, with essential services guaranteed. Manuel Alivesi, metropolitan coordinator of Sardegna al Centro 20 Venti, has commented on the dispute, calling on the Region to provide concrete answers.

The two dates were confirmed at the staff general assembly on 29 September. The programme includes a demonstration outside the Regional Council in Cagliari on 8 October; the following day, the protest will continue in Sassari with an open meeting outside the AOU’s general management offices on Viale San Pietro. The protest is calling for action on working conditions and the organisation of care.

Alivesi described the strike as “a wake-up call that the Region can no longer ignore” and said the dispute concerns not only the organisation but also the right to healthcare for residents of northern Sardinia. The issues cited by the unions include staff shortages, organisational problems, overcrowding, and financial and contractual matters.

The Sardegna al Centro 20 Venti representative called on Regional President Alessandra Todde, who also holds the interim position of Health Councillor. According to Alivesi, it is necessary to ensure that the announced decisions lead to recruitment, adequate shift coverage, better organisation of services and recognition of professional expertise. He called for talks involving the Region, the AOU, the unions and local representatives, with an operational working group and verifiable objectives.

Alivesi also highlighted the role of the Sassari organisation, which serves a large area and a population that includes northern Sardinia and part of the region’s wider user base. The proposals put forward by the movement include an assessment of staffing needs, speeding up recruitment and permanent appointments, action on shifts and workloads, and a regional timetable dedicated to the AOU. As he reiterated, the political call is to move from statements to decisions and practical solutions.
