The Municipality of Sassari has opened registration on the list of out-of-town voters, in accordance with the guidance published on October 29. The procedure allows people who live in another Region and are temporarily in the city for specific reasons to vote in Sassari without returning to their municipality of residence.

People staying in the city for study or work may apply if their planned stay is at least nine months. Also included are people requiring healthcare, parents of minors receiving treatment at local facilities, and caregivers assisting people receiving care in Sassari: for these situations, the minimum period is three months. The election must take place while the condition justifying their presence away from home is still valid. Eligibility must be documented or declared by self-certification, as applicable.

To register, applicants must complete the ministerial form, attach a valid identity document and provide the required documentation or a self-certification. The guidance and form are available on the Municipality’s website. Applications can be submitted in three ways:

  • In person at the Municipal Protocol Office, at Piazza del Comune 1: Monday to Friday from 9 a.m. to noon, and on Tuesdays also from 3 p.m. to 5 p.m.
  • By certified email, preferably from a personal PEC address, to the address listed on the municipal website.
  • By ordinary email, using the address given in the Municipality’s online instructions.

The deadlines vary depending on the reason for the stay. For study and work, applications must be submitted by December 31 to vote in elections held the following year. If the condition that entitles a person to use this procedure arises after that date, the application must be submitted within 30 days; in any case, the deadline is 45 days before the vote. For applications related to healthcare or caregiving, the deadline is 45 days before the election.

Once registered, voters cast their ballots in Sassari for the lists and candidates in the constituency and electoral district of Sassari, in accordance with the rules for each election. Registration is valid for one year: to use this option again the following year, a new application must be submitted.
