Il Manoscritto bookshop hosts the presentation of The Flesh and Memory, Agostino Loriga’s debut novel. The event is scheduled for Saturday, October 10 at 6:30 p.m.; the author will be in conversation with Daria Martinez. Admission is free.

The novel

At the heart of the story is Ettore Delunas, a restless and unpredictable man marked by an extraordinary birth. His life takes him through adventures, love affairs, different jobs, failures and attempts at redemption. Ettore dreams of finding the money to build a residence during the years of tourism development in Sardinia: a project that also represents the hope of changing the way others see him—and the way he sees himself.

  1. The story also unfolds in Siarenas, an imaginary town overlooking the Gulf of Asinara, shaped by the wind that inspired its name.
  2. His almost nonexistent relationships with his ex-wives and children, together with memories of his friend Emilio, accompany Ettore as he confronts his past.
  3. When Federico, one of his sons, becomes involved in a heroin-trafficking operation, Ettore is called upon to react and take a stand.

The author and the event

Born in Sassari in 1973, Loriga is a psychologist, psychotherapist and couples counsellor. After graduating in Padua, he trained in Psychosocial Gestalt in Rome and works in Arzachena and Sassari. In 2015, he took part in creating the illustrated book “Little Bear Discovers the Dawn”, designed to support children who are victims of violence. The event offers the public an opportunity to learn about his move into fiction and, in conversation with Daria Martinez, explore themes of memory, fatherhood and the possibility of starting over.
