A fault in the data network used for air traffic control caused delays and cancellations on Friday 16 October also at the airports of Alghero and Olbia. Disruptions affected several connections to and from Sardinia, while the Ryanair flight to Katowice was shown as rescheduled from 12:50 to 19:05, a delay of more than six hours compared with the scheduled time.
The anomaly in Enav’s data transmission network was detected overnight. From 6 a.m., measures were introduced to regulate traffic flows, with a temporary reduction in the capacity to manage aircraft. The agency ruled out a cyberattack or sabotage, attributing the problem to a technical fault. Disruptions also affected the airports in Rome and Lombardy.
At Alghero, the 7 a.m. flight to Milan Linate departed at 10:15; the Aeroitalia flight to Rome, scheduled for 7:10, was delayed by ten minutes. The Linate connection was therefore among those affected by the morning’s disruptions; information about the route is also available in an update on the Alghero–Linate connection.
- At Alghero, the Ryanair flights to Bologna at 7:35 and Tirana at 8:55 were delayed by just over half an hour. The Ita flight to Linate at 9:55 departed at 11:05. Wizz Air flights to Belgrade and Ryanair flights to Bergamo were cancelled. The 12:50 departure to Katowice was listed as 19:05 on the SOGEAAL website at the time of the update.
- At Olbia, the 6:30 Volotea flight to Bergamo departed at 10:56, and the Aeroitalia flight to Linate, scheduled for 7, departed at 10:30. The Edelweiss flight from Olbia to Zurich was pushed back from 8:40 to 10:05; delays also affected flights to Hamburg, Berlin and London. The 10:45 Volotea flight to Paris was rescheduled to 13:00, while the 10:55 Ryanair flight to Krakow was rescheduled to 13:30. The Aeroitalia flight to Rome was listed at 12:40 instead of 11:55, and the flight to Milan at 14:15 instead of 11.
Delays of more than thirty minutes were also recorded on some flights arriving in Alghero from Rome and Milan. The times shown reflect the situation as updated during the morning and could change: passengers were advised to check their flight status with the airline and follow the airport’s official updates.
