The Region has earmarked €27.81 million for Sassari as part of its routine maintenance plan for provincial roads for the 2026–2028 three-year period. The sum amounts to €9.27 million a year and is part of the €108 million approved by the Regional Council on 2 October, with funds allocated to the authorities according to the length of their respective road networks.
The three-year funding is for routine maintenance and should be distinguished from funding for extraordinary works and safety improvements. The Region has distributed the €108 million over three annual instalments of €36 million each. The annual allocation for the Metropolitan City of Sassari therefore amounts to just over a quarter of the €36 million earmarked for the entire network managed by the intermediate-level authorities.
In the Sassari area, the road network managed by the metropolitan authority extends for 1,526 kilometres, according to figures cited in the 16 October article. In the same report, Regional Public Works Councillor Antonio Piu identified the Sassari–Nulvi road, the Sassari–Ittiri road and the Tissi bridge as priorities, highlighting needs raised in discussions with local administrators and the Coros Union of Municipalities.
The three-year funding is in addition to measures of a different kind that have already been approved. On 22 July, the Region allocated €875,000 for Sassari as part of an extraordinary €3.4 million funding package for road maintenance and safety. This is separate from the 2026–2028 routine maintenance plan: the amounts serve different purposes and were approved under different measures, so they should not be added together as if they were part of a single scheme.
Other Sardinian infrastructure that, according to Piu, requires urgent work includes Provincial Road 74 in the Oristano area, the Bonutrau–Tossilo road in the Marghine area and the Cala Gonone tunnel. The routine maintenance plan allocates funds according to the kilometres of roads managed by each authority; the relevant administrations are responsible for planning the specific works in light of road conditions and local needs. Regional funding is intended to support maintenance work and improve the safety of the road network. In Sassari, a plan covering 129 intersections and crossings has also been announced as part of municipal road safety measures.
