Alghero is preparing to welcome the Rally Italia Sardegna 2026 and is temporarily changing its traffic layout. In view of the WRC World Championship event, scheduled from October 1 to 4, the Municipality has ordered a series of traffic closures, parking bans, and circulation changes necessary for the setup of the service park, the Rally Village, and the structures connected to the event.

The first measures already came into effect on September 21, while some restrictions will remain active even in the days following the conclusion of the race, until October 8.

Banchina Millelire and Piazzale della Pace: the first bans

One of the most affected areas is Banchina Millelire, designated for the service park structures.

From 8:00 AM on September 21 until 12:00 AM on October 8, transit and parking are prohibited, with forced removal, except for race cars, organization vehicles, and those used for the assembly and disassembly of structures.

Similar limitations affect Piazzale della Pace. In this case, the transit and parking ban with forced removal is in effect from 8:00 AM on September 21 until 12:00 AM on October 7.

The start of the restrictions in Piazzale della Pace was initially set for September 24, but the Municipality subsequently moved the closure forward due to requirements related to the setup of the service park.

From September 28, closures in several streets of Alghero

The most significant phase of the traffic changes will begin at 8:00 AM on Monday, September 28 and will continue until midnight on Sunday, October 4.

Among the affected roads are via Asfodelo, via La Marmora, and via Eleonora d’Arborea, where transit and parking bans with forced removal will be in effect, with exemptions provided for authorized vehicles, emergency services, and some residents.

Restrictions will also affect via XXIV Maggio and via Garibaldi, as well as via degli Orti, via Spano, via Costa Brava, and the extension of via Catalogna.

In the cycle path of via Garibaldi, in the section between the port area entrance and Banchina Garibaldi-Dogana, circulation will be suspended and cyclists must lead their bicycles by hand.

In via degli Agricoltori, an area reserved for refueling Rally cars will be set up, with a resulting transit and parking ban for unauthorized vehicles.

Bastioni, Piazza Civica, and Porta a Mare: what changes during the Rally

The changes will also affect some of the most frequented areas of Alghero's historic center.

On the Bastioni Cristoforo Colombo, in the seaside section between via Cavour and via Maiorca, a parking ban with removal is planned from 9:00 AM on September 27 to 12:00 AM on October 4. The spaces will be reserved for organization vehicles.

Particular attention is also given to Piazza Civica and Porta a Mare.

On Thursday October 1, from 4:00 PM to 12:00 AM, transit will be prohibited for the parade of the Rally participating cars. A new closure will take place on Sunday October 4 from 11:00 AM to 12:00 AM, coinciding with the arrival of the crews and the closing ceremony.

During these time slots, exiting the ZTL will be possible exclusively through the Piazza Sulis gate.

Rally Italia Sardegna, pay attention to traffic until October 8

The restrictions will therefore accompany Alghero not only during the four days of the race, but also during the preparation and disassembly phases.

The most critical period for circulation will be between September 28 and October 4, when several areas around the seafront, the port, and the service park will be simultaneously affected by closures and traffic changes.

The Municipality invites motorists and residents to pay attention to temporary signage and to plan their movements in advance. Vehicles left in areas subject to bans may be removed by tow truck.

Alghero is thus preparing to become the operational heart of a Rally Italia Sardegna that will involve a large part of North Sardinia, with special stages also in the territories of Sassari, Osilo, Tergu, Pattada, and numerous other municipalities on the Island.
