The Torres lost 2-0 to Reggiana in the tenth round of Group B of Serie C, at the Mapei Stadium in Reggio Emilia. The home side scored both goals in the first half, with Sipos and Portanova, while the Rossoblù created several chances without managing to get back into the game.
The start was lively on both sides. After a few chances for Reggiana, Torres responded with Masala and especially with Di Stefano: in the 19th minute, his long-range shot hit the post. Bunino also tried to make an impact on the counterattack, while Mastinu took part in the attacking move and helped win a corner.
At 35’, Sipos opened the scoring with a header from Rover’s cross. Five minutes later Portanova doubled the lead, converting Sipos’s assist with a shot that gave Zaccagno no chance. In between, Torres had a great chance through Berto, who was denied by Furlan just a few steps from goal.
The two-goal deficit did not discourage the Sassari side, who continued to search for a goal. In the second half, Bunino again tested Furlan with a header and Di Stefano found the goalkeeper ready to make the save. Late on, Masala forced the Granata goalkeeper into two saves, one of them beneath the crossbar, while Cavaliere sent another effort wide.
The team of Alfonso Greco was also hampered by the limited options in attack. Scotto and Sorrentino were unavailable, and Lunghi was injured during the match. With Bunino struggling physically and no natural strikers on the pitch late on, Torres tried to press forward, but Reggiana defended its lead.
The defeat ended the Rossoblù’s run of six consecutive games unbeaten and was their third in the league. The previous draw at Forlì had come in the sixth round. At Mapei Stadium, Torres showed initiative and created chances, but Sipos and Portanova’s goals shaped the game before half-time.
