Thursday October 22 doctors and volunteers will board two regional trains between Cagliari and Sassari to offer passengers free consultations and information on cancer prevention. The initiative is part of FrecciaRosa 2026, promoted by the FS Group and the IncontraDonna Foundation to bring prevention within reach of people travelling by train.
Doctors from the Italian Association of Medical Oncology (AIOM) and volunteers from the IncontraDonna Foundation will be on board. Passengers can ask for advice and receive information materials; the initiative aims to raise awareness of prevention and cancer screening through a service available during the journey.
Both services are operated by Trenitalia’s Regional division. The first departs from Cagliari in the morning and reaches Sassari in the early afternoon; the second runs the route in the opposite direction, departing from Sassari in the afternoon.
- Train R 4826: departs from Cagliari at 10:38 and arrives in Sassari at 13:39. Stops at Elmas Aeroporto, San Gavino, Oristano, Macomer and Chilivani.
- Train R 4835: departs from Sassari at 14:38 and arrives in Cagliari at 17:50. Stops at Ploaghe, Chilivani, Macomer, Oristano, San Gavino and Elmas Aeroporto.
- Free consultations and information materials will be available during the journeys; passengers can also book teleconsultations to get further information.
The materials distributed will include the Health Handbook, produced with the Ministry of Health and available in digital format and in several languages. Teleconsultations can provide guidance to be followed up later through the National Health Service.
The Sardinian event is part of the national programme for the sixteenth edition, which throughout October offers information and free consultations on board some Frecce, Intercity and Regional trains, Monday to Friday, according to Trenitalia’s schedule. Stations have also taken part in raising awareness: between September 30 and October 1, Rete Ferroviaria Italiana lit up 40 Italian stations in pink, including Cagliari station. The initiative was previously held in Sardinia in 2023, with an awareness-raising journey between Cagliari and Sassari. In Sassari, the Prevention Hub is also scheduled for the same month.
