Four ambulances from Sardinia to Senegal and Gambia, carrying wheelchairs and medical supplies. This is the goal of Sardinia–Dakar–Banjul 2026, the mission for which Progetto AlbatroSS, an organization connected to Sassari, has launched a GoFundMe fundraiser. The departure is scheduled for November 2026, according to the organizers’ plans.

What the donations will fund

Contributions will help cover vehicle preparation, fuel, equipment transport and travel expenses. Alongside delivering the aid, AlbatroSS plans to provide BLSD training and life-saving skills training, sharing expertise with the communities they meet.

As of October 26, 2026, the campaign page reports 2,633 euros raised toward a goal of 3,500 euros, through 60 donations. That leaves 867 euros to reach the target listed on the platform.

A journey of sport and cooperation from Sassari

The new initiative builds on a documented record of cooperation. In November 2025, the project Sardinia Dakar – Olympic and Paralympic Corridors was presented to the Regional Council of Sardinia. At its heart was a journey from Sassari to Dakar carrying sports equipment, disability aids and educational materials.

An account published by La Nuova Sardegna in January 2026 describes a journey of around five thousand kilometers, through Spain, Morocco, Western Sahara and Mauritania. The wheelchairs were delivered to the Senegalese Paralympic Committee and associations working on disability issues, reaching Dakar and rural areas.

In May 2026, the same newspaper reported on preparations for a further mission to Kenya, led by Manolo Cattari and involving healthcare professionals. It is a journey connecting Paralympic activities with training and the exchange of expertise.

How to support the fundraiser

Those wishing to contribute can donate through the Progetto AlbatroSS GoFundMe campaign, where they can read about the initiative and follow donation updates.

The organizers also encourage people to share the fundraiser: a way to spread the word about the mission and get more people involved in supporting the journey.
