From 23 to 25 October Sassari is also taking part in Biscotti Senza Frontiere, the fundraising campaign by Medici Senza Frontiere (MSF). Volunteers will be at Piazza Castello to collect donations for the Emergency Fund, which enables the organisation to launch responses to humanitarian crises, including wars, epidemics and natural disasters.

The third edition involves more than 200 squares across Italy and over 2,000 volunteers. In Sardinia, stalls will also be set up in Cagliari, in Piazza Yenne and Piazza Giovanni XXIII; the initiative also offers the opportunity to support MSF by buying biscuits through its online Bottega solidale.

With a minimum donation of 15 euros you receive a box, available in classic and fruit flavours. The boxes feature two designs: one shows an organisation 4x4 vehicle transporting aid, while the other brings together images of equipment and supplies used in the field, from ambulances to first-aid kits. According to MSF, a donation of 15 euros can help provide 30 sachets of ready-to-use therapeutic food, used to treat malnutrition.

The 2026 edition gives special attention to mental health, an important issue both during emergencies and in everyday life. The boxes will include a QR code to download the brochure “This, too, is care”, with practical tools and guidance to raise awareness. The funds raised by MSF in Italy come from private donations, which help safeguard the organisation’s independence and its ability to respond quickly.

The campaign also highlights the organisation’s work in crisis settings: more than one in three projects takes place in areas affected by war or armed conflict. In 2025, in Gaza, teams carried out more than 900,000 medical consultations, performed 27,000 surgical procedures and assisted with over 13,000 births. In Sudan, that same year, MSF conducted more than 1.4 million outpatient consultations and assisted with 34,000 births, while millions of people had been forced to leave their homes.

In the Democratic Republic of the Congo, the consequences of conflict intersect with health emergencies, including a new Ebola outbreak. Biscotti Senza Frontiere has been held in previous editions: in 2024 the fundraiser reached more than 100 squares, and in 2025 more than 150 locations across Italy. In Sassari, another event held in October was a solidarity walk, separate from MSF’s fundraiser.
