Raimond Sassari defeat Conversano to claim sole lead in Serie A Gold

The Raimond Sassari defeated Conversano 32-31 on Tuesday, October 27, at the PalaSantoru in a rescheduled match from the seventh round of Serie A Gold. Bargelli scored the winning goal in the dying seconds of a closely contested match. It was the Rossoblù’s seventh win in eight matches, putting them back in sole possession of first place, two points ahead of Pressano.

The match began evenly: after the teams’ first attacks produced no goals, both sides found their shooting rhythm, and the score was 6-6 after 10 minutes. Conversano took the lead after Radovcic missed a seven-metre throw, then De Luca helped extend the advantage to 10-13 by the 20th minute. Raimond responded primarily through its defence, conceding just three goals in the final 10 minutes of the half and drawing level at 16-16 at the break.

The gap between the teams remained narrow in the second half. Play was frequently interrupted by seven-metre throws awarded by the referees, and with 15 minutes remaining the score was still level at 23-23. Conversano tried to pull away, but Sassari responded through De La Santa and Delogu. The match came alive in the closing minutes: Diagne put his side ahead 31-30, prompting visiting coach Esteban Alonso to call a timeout.

Conversano were unable to equalise on that possession. After Ratko Durkovic called a timeout, Possamai beat Pavani with 14 seconds left on the clock to make it 31-31. For the final play, Raimond turned to Jarlstam, who passed to Bargelli: he received the ball on the six-metre line and scored the winner, sending the PalaSantoru into raptures.

Jarlstam was Sassari’s top scorer with seven goals, followed by Bargelli with six and Diagne and Furtado with five each. De La Santa finished with three goals, while Delogu and Pugliese scored two apiece. De Luca led Conversano’s attack with eight goals, while Cuello F. scored seven and Jokic four.

The win follows the one against Molteno, which had allowed the Sassari side to remain top of the table. Raimond will return to action in the next league round, when they host Alperia Merano.
