The Torres announced on Monday, October 26 that Giuseppe Mastinu had fractured two cervical vertebrae. The tests were carried out after the captain was injured during the match against Guidonia on Sunday, October 25. The club added that further examinations are underway to establish the diagnosis and prognosis.
Mastinu came off in the 34th minute of the first half, with Giorico taking his place. The incident occurred during an aerial challenge with Tascone: according to the account, the Rossoblù midfielder fell while twisting and hit the ground hard in the area between his neck and shoulder.
After the impact, the captain tried to stay on the pitch for a few minutes, gritting his teeth, but eventually walked off unsteadily. That evening, the club announced that the necessary tests and examinations were underway; the initial indications appeared reassuring and did not suggest any risk of serious problems. However, subsequent checks revealed a more serious situation.
In a statement issued on Monday, the club specified that “further examinations are underway to establish a definite and accurate diagnosis (and consequently a prognosis)”. The statement then reported the results of that day’s tests: “they revealed fractures to two cervical vertebrae”. The club also clarified that “any other account or prediction has no medical or scientific basis”.
The fracture is therefore the information disclosed by the Torres following the tests, while the medical assessment is still ongoing. The club announced that it will share updates through its official channels. The Rossoblù captain was injured during the match against Guidonia, before being replaced by Giorico.
The incident has brought attention back to Giuseppe Mastinu, who left the pitch after the challenge and underwent checks in the hours that followed. For a recap of the match, read the Torres-Guidonia live report.
