The Raimond Sassari return to action in Serie A Gold on Saturday, October 24, for the eighth round of the regular season: the Rossoblù will be guests of Salumificio Riva Molteno at the PalaSanGiorgio. Kick-off is scheduled for 4:30 p.m., and the match will be streamed live on PallamanoTV’s YouTube channel.
The Sassari team comes into the match after progressing past the second round of the EHF European Cup in a two-leg tie against Kastrioti, played last weekend at the PalaSantoru. The European Cup round has taken Raimond further in the European competition, but the league remains the Rossoblù’s immediate focus. In Serie A Gold, the team coached by Durkovic is top of the table, level on points with Pressano: so far, they are the only side to have taken a point off the Sassari team.
Molteno sit in eleventh place with four points, but come into the match after an away win over Macagi Cingoli, beating them 29–26. Before that, the Lombardy side had also won at home against Junior Fasano, prevailing 34–26 at the PalaSanGiorgio. The team’s main attacking threat is Frenchman Octave Touvrey, a former player facing his old team, who has scored 31 goals. Their recent results and the leading scorer’s form make this an away fixture to approach with care, despite the two teams’ different positions in the standings.
Gualther Furtado previewed the match, highlighting both his satisfaction with the team’s European campaign and the need to focus on the league: «We’re very pleased to have progressed to the next round of the cup. Playing in Europe is never easy, and playing two games in two days makes it even harder. The European Cup is a great showcase, and we want to do well, but we’re very clear that our “real objectives” are the ones we’re competing for within our national borders. We’ve made a good start and want to keep it going. We’ll go to Molteno knowing we have to face an opponent who, despite their position in the standings, will be buoyed by their win away to Cingoli».
The Raimond full-back then drew attention to the Lombardy side’s result in Cingoli and the need to build on the team’s strong start to the season. The match pits the league leaders, level on points with Pressano, against a side that has picked up points in its recent outings. The match will be played at the PalaSanGiorgio; those unable to attend can tune in to the live stream.
