Sassari Local Police will begin on Monday, October 19 a new phase of the “Transparency” operation, with speed checks on urban and rural roads. The checks, carried out using laser speed guns, will continue through November 30 and aim to reduce risks for motorists and pedestrians, also in light of accidents recorded in the city.

Officers will focus on roads considered particularly high-risk and on those where accidents occur most frequently. Checks may also be carried out during the evening and nighttime hours; patrols will also be stepped up ahead of weekends. The initiative aims to tackle speeding and remind drivers to observe speed limits.

The name “Transparency” reflects the decision to announce the roads covered in advance, to raise awareness among road users and encourage more cautious behavior. According to the announcement, since the beginning of 2026 the Command has recorded 887 accidents, 322 of them involving injuries; those involved included 61 pedestrians who were struck. The figures provide a picture of the situation that has prompted the increased checks.

Laser speed gun checkpoints will be set up on the following roads, in Sassari and other locations within the municipal area:

  • Sassari: Via Predda Niedda, Via Rockfeller, Via Buddi Buddi, Via Budapest, Via Milano, Viale Porto Torres, Via Don Sturzo, Via Prati and Via Piredda.
  • Other routes and locations: former SS 131, Ottava, SS 200 Sassari–Sorso, Via Domenico Millelire and Via De Martini.
  • Rural areas: SP 18 at Bancali, SP 4 and SP 18 in the Palmadula area, and SP 42 at Campanedda.

For drivers, the practical advice is to watch their speed on the listed routes and during the evening and nighttime hours, when checks may be in operation. The campaign is part of the road safety prevention initiatives already carried out in the area: the Traffic Police had previously also published a schedule of speed checks.
