A collective sound wave is getting ready to liven up the weekend in Sassari. On Sunday, September 20, starting at 5:00 PM, Piazzale Segni will transform into a huge open-air stage to welcome the new edition of the Festa del Ritmo. More than a hundred drummers will set up their instruments in the urban space to bring to life a spectacular ensemble performance, engaging enthusiasts, students, and experienced musicians from various towns across Sardinia.
The event, created and coordinated by the Bateras Beat music school on Via Marsiglia under the leadership of Fabrizio Murgia, arrives in the Turritan capital following the positive responses garnered in previous island stops. The format had already been presented in Ossi, La Maddalena, and Macomer, but this Sunday's event holds a special symbolic value for the organizer, who is deeply attached to his roots: "I organized it in Ossi, in La Maddalena, in Macomer... but I'm from Sassari, from Le Conce, and I knew that sooner or later I would organize it at home," recalled the musician.
A choral experience open to the city
The event is designed as a large recital-show with free admission, aimed at breaking down the distance between performers and spectators. The primary goal is to promote live music as a tool for social and intergenerational connection. As Murgia himself pointed out, the initiative aims to offer a concrete alternative to digital isolation: "We want to show everyone that music is still capable of pulling people away from screens and creating moments of sharing."
The gathering will see participants perform in unison across a sequence of tracks arranged for choral drums, creating a dense rhythmic texture that will resonate throughout the public area for the entire afternoon.
