The Raimond Sassari is preparing to return to the court for a new Serie A Gold season. After narrowly missing out on the Italian title just a few months ago, the Rossoblù will start again with the goal of confirming their place at the top of Italian handball.
According to the updated federation schedule, the first fixture in chronological order will be Raimond Sassari-Trieste, scheduled for Wednesday, September 9 at 6:00 p.m. in Sassari. The match, valid for the third round, has been brought forward from the original schedule.
The debut originally scheduled for the first round has also been changed: Teamnetwork Albatro Siracusa-Raimond Sassari is currently set for Wednesday, September 30 at 7:00 p.m.
Sassari starts again after the Scudetto final
For the team coached by Ratko Durkovic, it will be the beginning of a season full of expectations.
Raimond are coming off a season that ended with the Scudetto final against Proger Cassano Magnago. After eliminating Bolzano in the semifinals, the Sassari side lost to the Lombard team in the deciding series, with Cassano claiming its first Italian title by also winning Game 2 at PalaSantoru.
The result brought Sassari back to the highest levels of Italian handball and inevitably represents the starting point for the new championship.
During the summer, the club also worked on the roster, signing, among others, Macedonian backcourt player Tomche Stojanovski, from GRK Tikves Kavadarci, and young Italy international Rayen Ben Hiba.
Trieste the first test for the Rossoblù
The first opponent will be one of the historic clubs in Italian handball. Trieste, with 17 Scudetti to its name, has retained Boris Lisica as coach and enters the new season with a revamped squad.
The Biancorossi have already shown positive signs during their summer preparations, beating Metelli Cologne 33-30 and RK Poreč 24-19 at the Trieste Tournament held in August.
Sassari can therefore expect a significant test, useful for assessing the team’s physical condition and new balance right from the start.
A new push toward the playoffs
The format of the Serie A Gold 2026/2027 remains made up of 14 teams and 26 regular-season rounds. The top four will qualify for the Scudetto playoffs, while the bottom team will be relegated directly.
After finishing second last season, Raimond begin with major ambitions. The first test will come sooner than expected: Wednesday, September 9 against Trieste, as they begin a new push toward the positions that matter.
