The official season begins with a defeat for Torres. At the Picco, Alfonso Greco’s rossoblù hold out against Spezia for over an hour and even find a temporary equalizer, but collapse in the final stages of the match and are beaten 4-1.
The Sassari side’s adventure in the Coppa Italia Serie C 2026-2027 ends in the first round.
Spezia take the lead, Di Stefano reopens the match
Torres arrive in Liguria in the midst of a defensive emergency, but initially manage to contain the hosts’ pressure.
Spezia start better and take the lead late in the first half through Simone Mazzocchi, having already created several chances around Zaccagno’s goal.
The rossoblù, however, remain in the game.
In the second half, Lorenzo Di Stefano takes advantage of an error by the Ligurian defense, rounding Micai and making it 1-1.
For a few minutes, qualification is completely up for grabs again.
Three goals in under ten minutes
The equalizer, however, lasts only a very short time.
Spezia immediately raise the tempo and regain the lead through defender Motiejus Šapola, who scores from a corner.
From that moment on, Torres lose their cohesion.
Within a few minutes, there is also Denis Cazzadori’s 3-1 and the final 4-1 from Mert Durmush, who came off the bench and immediately made the difference.
A sequence of three goals in under ten minutes that definitively settles the match.

A Torres side still to be completed
Alfonso Greco arrived at the first competitive match with few alternatives, especially in defense.
The lineup fielded at the Picco featured Zaccagno in goal, with Zanandrea, Berto and Nunziatini in defense. In midfield were Zecca, Mastinu, Brentan and Masala, with Pennington and Di Stefano behind Sorrentino.
A team still under construction, with the transfer market necessarily needing to bring in new additions before the summer window closes.
Despite the heavy result, Torres managed to stay in the game for about an hour against a Spezia side that started with greater intensity.
The real warning sign therefore comes in the closing stages, when after conceding the second goal the rossoblù were no longer able to react.
Now it’s time to focus on the league
The Coppa Italia ends immediately, but Torres have little time to dwell on the defeat.
The Serie C season is now just around the corner, and the match at the Picco gave Greco the first concrete indications of the work still to be done.
The 4-1 is a heavy result, especially because of how it unfolded in the closing stages. But Torres’ first real objective will be to quickly learn from the mistakes against Spezia and be ready for the start of the league season.
