The Torres beat Pianese 2-1 at Vanni Sanna to claim a valuable victory on Matchday 5 of Serie C’s Group B. The Rossoblù took the lead through Lorenzo Di Stefano, conceded Leonardo Bellini’s equaliser early in the second half, then found the decisive goal in the 83rd minute through captain Luigi Scotto, who was impeccable from the penalty spot.
Di Stefano opens the scoring, Bellini responds in stoppage time
Alfonso Greco’s side started with good intensity and created several dangerous situations on the wings. After a number of chances came to nothing, the opener arrived in the 17th minute: a Pianese error allowed Di Stefano to race towards goal, round the goalkeeper with a touch and place the ball into the net. Torres also came close to doubling their lead, while Pianese had a goal disallowed for offside after a confused sequence that ended with an unvalidated own goal by Antonelli. Late in the first half, Carboni also found the net, but the referee disallowed it for an infringement.
Just when the first half seemed destined to end with the Sassarese side in front, Pianese equalised in the 48th minute. A misunderstanding between Antonelli and Nunziatini opened the way for Bellini, who kept his cool one-on-one with Zaccagno. The teams therefore went into the interval level at 1-1.
Pianese apply pressure, Scotto decides from the penalty spot
The visitors put Torres under pressure after the restart. Bellini wasted at least two good chances, while Zaccagno made decisive saves from a close-range effort and an Antonelli header. The Rossoblù tried to respond through Di Stefano and Zecca, but had to manage a difficult spell of the match. In the 70th minute, Torres called for FVS intervention over an alleged foul on Scotto in the penalty area: after the review, the incident was not deemed punishable and play resumed with a corner.
A few minutes later, however, the captain won another penalty after an obvious hold by Chesti. Pianese also used the review, but the decision was upheld. In the 83rd minute, Scotto sent Astaldi the wrong way by choosing the opposite corner from his previous attempt, putting Torres back in front.
In the closing stages, Pianese came close to equalising several times: Ianesi was denied by a ready Zaccagno, Bellini shot wide from close range and Proietto sent the ball narrowly past the post in the 93rd minute. Torres held on to secure three valuable points after a hard-fought match that ended 2-1.
With the victory at Vanni Sanna, Scotto’s return therefore became a night in the spotlight. The captain pulled on the Rossoblù shirt again and scored the goal that decided the contest against Pianese.
