Sardinia will get a brief break from the bad weather on Thursday, October 22, but more rain is expected from Friday, and colder air will arrive over the weekend. The forecast points to worsening conditions from Friday afternoon, followed by falling temperatures, strong winds and very rough seas.
The break is linked to the low-pressure system affecting Italy moving away towards eastern Europe. Another weather system will approach from the west, associated with a low-pressure area over the United Kingdom, so the improvement on the island will be short-lived.
For Thursday, October 22, mostly sunny spells are forecast. Westerly and northwesterly winds will blow at moderate to strong speeds, and the seas will remain very rough. The weather will also gradually improve elsewhere in Italy, although a few lingering showers are expected, especially in the northeast and along the Adriatic coast.
The weather will change again on Friday the 23rd: showers are expected to reach Sardinia in the afternoon. Temperatures are expected to remain stable or dip slightly, while winds will shift to southerly directions and may strengthen. The weather system will also affect the north and the central Tyrrhenian regions.
Showers and thunderstorms are forecast elsewhere in the country, particularly across Liguria, Lombardy, Emilia and northern Tuscany, with locally intense conditions. An updated ANSA forecast also reports that, after reaching Liguria, the rain may spread to Sardinia, Tuscany and the northeast.
During Saturday, October 24, a cold North Atlantic weather system is expected to arrive, favouring the formation of a low-pressure system over the Adriatic and its subsequent movement southwards. Precipitation will be concentrated mainly over the northeast and the central Adriatic regions, but may also affect parts of the south.
For Sunday, October 25, the outlook points to more sunshine in Sardinia, with cooler conditions than in the previous days. Temperatures are expected to drop, with strong northerly winds and seas remaining very rough. Elsewhere in Italy, showers may persist along the Adriatic and the lower Tyrrhenian coast, easing during the day.
The outlook therefore alternates between a more settled day, the return of rain and a weekend marked by falling temperatures and rough seas.
