Rain, wind and falling temperatures are affecting Sardinia over the All Saints’ Day long weekend, under the influence of a cold air mass that is hitting central and southern Italy in particular. For Sunday, November 1, showers, including thunderstorms, are forecast, with the first possible snowfall on the highest peaks of Gennargentu in the evening.
Rain and wind, already present on Sunday morning, are expected to continue in the following hours. Northeasterly winds have strengthened, with strong gusts along the northern and eastern coasts, while the sea quickly became very rough. Highs reached 22–23 degrees in the south of the island, with 22 degrees in Cagliari and 23 in Quartu; in the north-central areas, they remained between 16 and 18 degrees.
Recorded temperatures included 18 degrees in Sassari and 16 in Nuoro and Olbia. In the inland mountain areas, lows fell to 7–8 degrees. This is consistent with the sharp drop in temperatures expected on Monday, when highs will fall particularly in the northwestern part of the island.
For Monday, November 2, rain is forecast mainly in the morning in the northwest; on the eastern side, precipitation is expected chiefly in the evening. Light snowfall may continue on Gennargentu. Highs are forecast to fall to 11 degrees in Nuoro and 12–14 degrees in Macomer, Tempio and Olbia; along the coasts and in southern areas, however, they may reach 18–20 degrees, with 18 in Alghero and 20 in Cagliari. Lows will remain between 7 and 8 degrees inland. A drop in temperatures is also expected in the forecast for Sassari, amid the worsening weather across the island.
From Tuesday, November 3, gradual improvement is forecast: skies will be mostly clear, apart from occasional local cloud cover. Winds will be light and variable; the sea, still very rough in the early hours, will gradually calm. Lows will remain stable, while highs are expected to edge up slightly: 20–21 degrees in Alghero, Iglesias, Carbonia and Cagliari, and between 14 and 17 inland and in hilly areas. Temperatures of 15 degrees are forecast in Nuoro and around 18 in Sassari.
