Castelsardo recorded hotel occupancy in September close to 90%, exceeding the average for northern Sardinia, which stood at 85.01%. The figure, presented by Deputy Mayor and Tourism Councillor Giuseppe Ruzzu at the TTG Travel Experience trade fair in Rimini, strengthens the administration’s goal of spreading tourist flows beyond the summer months.

According to a survey by Federalberghi Confcommercio Nord Sardegna, the area’s result is the best ever recorded for the hotel sector: in September 2025, average occupancy was 82.92%. The sample covered 50,070 rooms. In Castelsardo, the figure came close to 90%, without reaching an exact value confirmed by the survey.

International visitors made up a significant share: in northern Sardinia, foreign visitors accounted for 75.68% of hotel stays in September. In Castelsardo, as in Alghero, the international share reached 85%. The area’s largest markets include Germany, France, Spain, Switzerland and Poland; the municipality is also looking to the United States and Canada to strengthen promotion beyond Italy.

Around 24,500 visits to the Castle were recorded during the month. Reports from the Tourist Office and the Mediterranean Weaving Museum also point to an increase in enquiries and visitors. Taking part in the TTG in Rimini provided an opportunity to showcase the village’s attractions to domestic and international markets, with a focus on its local history, culture and traditions. Promoting the area is also at the heart of initiatives that put Castelsardo in the spotlight.

For the administration led by Mayor Maria Lucia Tirotto, September’s result shows that the village can attract visitors outside the peak season too. «The real success of this season is September’s exceptional performance. Our city has shown that it can attract visitors beyond the summer months. This confirms that investing in the village’s history, culture, traditions and identity is the right path», Ruzzu said.

The next event on the calendar is the programme planned for December, designed for a range of audiences and part of the strategy to extend the tourist season. The highlight will be the traditional New Year’s Eve celebrations in the square, which the city is eagerly anticipating. In May, Castelsardo joined the Patto Destinazione Sardegna Nord Ovest, which aims, among other things, to coordinate promotion and develop new tourism products and connections during the low season.
