First defeat in the Sardinia Cup for Dinamo Banco di Sardegna, beaten 64-68 by Valtur Brindisi at the PalaPirastu in Cagliari.
The clash between two teams that will also meet in the next Serie A2 season saw the Apulian side build its lead mainly in the first twenty minutes, before Sassari's response in the closing stages of the game.
For the team coached by Luca Vitali, this was another useful test in the build-up to the start of the official season.
Brindisi ahead already in the first half
Valtur got off to the better start and ended the first quarter ahead 22-17.
The gap grew further in the second quarter, which Brindisi won 19-15: at halftime, the scoreboard therefore read 32-41.
After the break, the game became more balanced. The third quarter ended 13-13, allowing the Apulian side to retain a nine-point lead at 45-54.
Dinamo try to mount a comeback in the fourth quarter
The Biancoblù's response came in the final ten minutes.
Sassari raised the intensity and won the fourth quarter 19-14, gradually reducing the deficit. However, the comeback attempt was not enough to overturn the result.
At the final buzzer, the score was 64-68 to Brindisi, which thus secured victory in the first edition of the Sardinia Cup.
Regardless of the result, for the Dinamo staff the preseason continues to represent above all an opportunity to work on the balance of a deeply revamped roster and build up rhythm and fitness ahead of Serie A2.
Dinamo and Brindisi meet again in Oristano
There will be no need to wait for the league season to see the two teams face each other again.
Dinamo Sassari and Valtur Brindisi will take to the court again on Saturday, September 12 at 8 p.m., this time at the Palasport Sa Rodia in Oristano for the first Trofeo Città di Oristano.
It will therefore be an immediate opportunity for Sassari to respond after the defeat in Cagliari and continue its preparations for the official debut on September 27.

The defeat to Brindisi therefore remains part of the process of building the new team: on Saturday in Oristano, there will already be a second head-to-head clash with one of the future rivals in Serie A2.
