Dinamo looking to bounce back after Montecatini

Sassari head to Mestre after their first defeat of the season.

Gema Montecatini won 81–72 at the PalaSerradimigni, after Dinamo had fallen 21 points behind before managing to make it a game again in the fourth quarter.

Vitali’s team cut the deficit to two points but could not complete the comeback. One positive from the game was Bryce Nze’s double-double of 16 points and 12 rebounds.

Ahead of the away game, Luca Vitali singled out the team’s approach as one area to improve. “We’ll start with our approach to the game,” the coach explained, stressing the need to face Mestre with greater toughness and humility.

Brooks available again as other players continue their recovery

Dinamo welcome back an important player.

Jeff Brooks is available again after the flu forced him to miss the game against Montecatini. Sean Flood has had a few more practices to learn the team’s system since recently joining Sassari.

Meanwhile, Kaza Kajami-Keane, Michele Vitali and Riccardo Pisano are continuing their respective recovery programs.

Brooks’s return could therefore give Dinamo more rotation options after several absences in the first two rounds.

Mestre coming off a win in Turin and a heavy loss to Livorno

Gemini also come into the third round with one win and one loss.

The Venetians got off to a strong start with a 79–57 win away to Reale Mutua Torino, with Keshawn Curry leading the way with 25 points and Hasan Varence recording a double-double of 19 points and 12 rebounds.

The second round was a very different story. At the Taliercio, Libertas Livorno overwhelmed Mestre 88–49, holding the home side to just 49 points.

Gemini are nonetheless on 0 points despite a 1–1 record in the standings, due to a two-point deduction. Dinamo have 2 points.

Watch out for Mestre’s transition game and Keshawn Curry

Luca Vitali described Mestre as a young, unpredictable team that are particularly effective when they can push the pace.

According to the Sassari staff’s analysis, around 40% of Gemini’s points come in transition. One player to watch in particular will be Keshawn Curry, whom Vitali himself identified as the Venetians’ main offensive threat, alongside players such as Simone Valsecchi, Lorenzo Calbini and Costantino Bechi.

That makes Dinamo’s transition defense crucial, especially after the struggles they showed in their approach to the game against Montecatini.

It will also be a special game for Simone Aromando, a former player and captain of Mestre, where he won a championship.

Dinamo head to Mestre looking to get back to winning ways

After two rounds, Sassari’s record stands at one win and one loss: a 70–68 win away to Urania and a 72–81 defeat to Montecatini.

The trip to Mestre is Dinamo’s first test after their home setback and another chance to gauge the progress of Luca Vitali’s team.
