The new Sports Hall on Via Kennedy in Sassari is beginning to take shape. At the Latte Dolce construction site, work has begun on assembling the large steel structures that will support the facility’s roof, marking one of the most important steps towards completing the project.
The 12 trusses are being assembled on the ground and then lifted above the pillars using two cranes for exceptional lifting operations. After the roof, the schedule calls for the installation of the walls, the prefabricated stands and the enclosure of the south side.
Objective: complete the work by December 2026
The deadline now in focus is December 2026.
The city administration aims to complete the new sports hall by the end of the year, in accordance with the extension granted after delays caused by a major leak in the city water pipeline, discovered during excavation work.
The problem, which had significantly affected progress at the site, was resolved by Abbanoa. Removing the obstacle now makes it possible to speed up the remaining work.
As early as February, the city administration had presented the Department for Sport with a schedule indicating that the project would be completed by December.
An investment of more than €5 million
The total value of the project has reached €5.137 million.
The main part of the funding, €3.5 million, comes from the PNRR. This is supplemented by €700,000 from the Fund for Indeferrable Works and three co-financing contributions from the City of Sassari amounting to €300,000, €500,000 and €137,000.
Construction has been entrusted to the consortium led by Sassari-based Angius Costruzioni.
An important part of the facility has been built using prefabricated elements manufactured away from the construction site. This is also why, although progress on Via Kennedy may have appeared barely visible for months, the walls, stands and reinforced-concrete structures were already at an advanced stage of production.
Handball, volleyball and five-a-side football in the new facility
The new Sports Hall is designed as an indoor multipurpose facility and will mainly be used for volleyball, handball and five-a-side football.
The aim is to provide a new home for Sassari’s clubs competing in indoor sports, which for years have had to contend with a limited availability of facilities suitable for top-level competitions.
The project includes two stands and seating for more than 2,000 spectators, with the option of expanding the facility further in the future.
The facility is also intended to enable Sassari to host national and international sporting events.
Latte Dolce moves towards becoming a new sports hub
The Sports Hall is not considered an isolated project.
The city administration’s aim is to connect the new facility with the swimming pools, the gym and Stadio dei Pini, gradually transforming Latte Dolce into a genuine city sports hub.
The neighbourhood’s transformation also involves other projects concerning public spaces. These include the €1.35 million project to redevelop Piazza Amundsen, which we have already covered in Il Sassarese Medio.

For the new Sports Hall, however, the most immediate challenge remains the schedule: complete the construction site by December and finally deliver a new facility dedicated to indoor sports to Sassari.
