In Sassari, nighttime closures of the level crossings on the Chilivani–Sassari line will continue until Friday, November 6, as required for tests on the new trains operated by Rete Ferroviaria Italiana. The closures are scheduled from 11 p.m. to 5 a.m. in the Caniga area and may last up to 40 minutes, with detours for anyone travelling during the affected hours.
The restrictions affect the crossings on Via Caniga, near the hamlet’s church and the ATP headquarters, as well as the three crossings along the road leading to the wastewater treatment plant. Traffic on this road will be prohibited for as long as the tests require. The closures are temporary, and the crossings will reopen once the operations are complete.
To reduce waiting times, the Municipality advises avoiding the area around the level crossings at night whenever possible. The suggested alternatives vary depending on the location and direction of travel:
- Near the church, when heading towards Sassari, drivers can turn left onto Via Rafael Sari and continue along Via Padre Luca, Via Peppino Mereu and the railway overpass. Towards Caniga, the detour is to the right over the railway overpass, then along Via Peppino Mereu, Via Padre Luca and the SS 127 bis.
- At the crossing near the ATP headquarters, when heading towards Sassari, drivers can turn left onto Strada 40 di Predda Niedda or onto the former SS 131 towards Porto Torres.
- Towards Caniga, traffic will be diverted from the roundabout at the intersection with Via Predda Niedda and directed along the same road towards the industrial area.
- Local traffic will still be permitted on the affected stretches up to the level crossings. Emergency vehicles may pass once the barriers have been raised.
The closures may cause delays and waits while the tests are carried out. Anyone needing to cross the area on the affected nights can therefore choose an alternative route in advance, following the detours provided for their direction of travel. Information is also available on nighttime closures on the 131.
