Friday October 16, from 9:30 a.m. to 1 p.m., Piazza d’Italia in Sassari will host an initiative by the Municipal Civil Protection service dedicated to prevention and self-protection. The morning will feature activities aimed in particular at students and information sessions for the public, with the aim of raising awareness of local risks and the actions to take in an emergency.

The event is part of National Civil Protection Week, scheduled for October 12 to 18 and reaching its eighth edition in 2026. The week coincides with the International Day for Disaster Risk Reduction, promoted by the United Nations and observed every year on October 13. The national initiative aims to promote a culture of prevention and greater awareness of risks.

The schools taking part are the city’s comprehensive schools, primary schools and lower secondary schools. Interactive activities and dedicated educational materials have been prepared for students, designed to explain how to recognize dangerous situations and how to respond to events such as floods, fires and hydrogeological hazards. The Municipal Civil Protection service emphasizes the importance of familiarizing young people with local risks and the signs that can precede an emergency.

Alongside municipal staff, volunteers from Misericordia, Sassari Soccorso and New Life will be present, as well as representatives of the Compagnia barracellare. During the morning, the square will host multimedia areas and an exhibition of vehicles and equipment used in rescue and monitoring activities. The different groups involved will offer a look at some of the work carried out in the area and the role played by support services.

Technicians will also explain the procedures set out in the municipal Civil Protection plan. The explanations will be accompanied by practical demonstrations of good practices to follow during a crisis, presenting both planning tools and individual actions that can help in dangerous situations. The event in the square is part of a calendar of prevention initiatives organized in the city: on October 3, the Cittadella della Prevenzione was also held in Piazza d’Italia as part of Ottobre Rosa.
