The municipal libraries of Sassari are reopening after the summer break with a schedule bringing together books, history, poetry and activities for younger children.
The events will take place at the central library in Piazza Tola, housed in Palazzo d'Usini, and at the outlying branches in Li Punti and Caniga, turning September into a month devoted not only to reading, but also to cultural exchange and participation.
The programme opened on 3 September with a presentation of “Corpo politico. Distopia del gesto, utopia del movimento” by choreographer Paola Bianchi, an event included in the fifth edition of the Aria Performing Art Festival.
Books on history and poetry at Palazzo d'Usini
The next event is scheduled for Thursday 10 September at 5 p.m., when Antonio Murziani will present “Porto Conte e Alghero. Azione nemica 1 agosto 1941”.
The book explores an episode in Sardinia’s military history during the Second World War through archival documents, photographs and graphic reconstructions.
Poetry will take centre stage on Thursday 24 September at 6 p.m. with Maria Giuliana Campanelli and the collection “Ai confini dell'essere. Sulle orme di Aspasia”. The author will be in conversation with Viviana Tarasconi and Salvatore Pintore, while the evening will feature the voice and music of Gianna Melas.
Both presentations will be held in the Palazzo d'Usini conference room and admission will be free.
Free storytelling sessions and workshops for children
An important part of the schedule is dedicated to families.
From 15 to 17 September, the three libraries will host storytelling sessions and workshops inspired by the book “Carolina e la corona pesantissima” by Pino Pace and Mattia Cerato.
The events, organised by Valentina Fedozzi, are aimed at girls and boys aged 4 to 6 and will begin at 4:45 p.m.:
15 September: Piazza Tola library 16 September: Li Punti library 17 September: Caniga library
Participation is free, but booking is required.
Bibliopride 2026: “Diverso da chi?” comes to Sassari
The month will close under the banner of inclusion with “Diverso da chi?”, an initiative included in Bibliopride 2026, National Library Week.
The activity will begin with a reading of “Uguali ma diversi” by Maria Loretta Giraldo and Nicoletta Bertelle, followed by a creative workshop focusing on equality, respect and celebrating differences.
The events are scheduled for 4:45 p.m. on 29 September in Piazza Tola, 30 September in Li Punti and 1 October in Caniga, for children aged 4 to 7.
Libraries becoming ever more community spaces
The September schedule confirms the role of Sassari’s libraries as places that go beyond simply lending books: spaces for study, culture, socialising and activities for all ages.
