The Torres could not go beyond a 0-0 draw against Vado at Vanni Sanna in the seventh day of Serie C Group B. A match with several regrets for Alfonso Greco's rossoblù, who were able to create numerous opportunities but unable to overcome Andrea Bellocci, who was decisive between the Ligurian posts.
After the 1-1 obtained on Forlì's ground, this marks the second consecutive draw for the Sassari team, who nonetheless extend their streak of positive results to four.
Torres rises to 11 points after seven matches, while Vado breaks their streak of four consecutive defeats and reaches 5 points.
Torres dangerous, Bellocci closes the door
The match, presented on the eve in our in-depth analysis of Torres-Vado, opens with a proactive Torres but one also called to pay attention to the visitors' counter-attacks.
The first real danger actually comes from Vado: in the 9th minute De Rinaldis tries to surprise Zaccagno with an insidious shot-cross, which the rossoblù goalkeeper manages to intervene upon.
Torres' response is not long in coming. In the 16th minute Lorenzo Di Stefano collects a clearance from the defense and lets fly a powerful shot that ends just wide. Greco's team progressively takes control of the field, moving the ball continuously and especially trying to exploit the flanks.
At the half-hour mark comes one of the most important opportunities of the first half. Mastinu finds Giacomo Zecca at the far post and number 77 manages to direct it towards the goal, but Bellocci intervenes and deflects it for a corner.
Di Stefano and Scotto narrowly miss the lead
The Sassari pressure grows as the minutes pass.
In the 40th minute Scotto and Di Stefano combine at the edge of the area, with number 7 managing to open his right foot towards the far post: the ball passes a few centimeters from the top corner.
Two minutes later, Scotto invents a spectacular finish. On Di Stefano's cross, the rossoblù striker attempts a backheel goal, sending the ball just wide.
Before the interval comes another great opportunity for Zecca, who is clever in timing his header against the visiting defense. Once again, however, Bellocci answers the call and preserves the 0-0.
Torres therefore returns to the dressing rooms with the feeling of having produced enough to break the deadlock, without managing to concretize.
Goal disallowed for Vado, then Scotto stopped by Bellocci
The second half begins with a scare for Vanni Sanna.
In the 48th minute Ferro finds the net for Vado after being served in depth by Vita, but the assistant raises the flag and signals offside. The Ligurian bench resorts to the Football Video Support, without however obtaining a change in the decision: the goal remains disallowed.
Danger averted, Torres returns to attack and in the 54th minute creates one of the clearest opportunities of the entire match. Brentan launches a deep ball to Luigi Scotto, who finds himself in front of Bellocci and tries to cross with his left foot. The Vado goalkeeper stretches and neutralizes it once again.
In the 66th minute, it is instead Liviero who narrowly misses the lead with a powerful left-foot shot after a cross from Zecca, but Bellocci manages to oppose it again.
Penalty for Torres, then the decision changes with FVS
The most discussed episode of the match arrives shortly after.
In the 68th minute, Scotto enters the area and goes down after contact with Luca Piana. Referee Francesco Aloise initially points to the spot and sends off the Vado defender.
The Ligurian bench, however, requests the intervention of the Football Video Support. After reviewing the action, the match official changes his decision: no penalty and red card overturned.
An episode that takes away from Torres the possibility of taking a penalty and playing the final part of the match with a numerical advantage.
Pennington narrowly misses the goal, but it remains 0-0
Greco tries to change something in the final phase by introducing new energy, but the script remains substantially unchanged: Torres seeks the goal, Vado defends and tries to concede as little as possible.
In the 77th minute Pennington manages to beat the opposing defense and finds himself in front of Bellocci from an angled position. The finish is precise, but the Ligurian goalkeeper responds again with a dive. On the rebound, Liviero tries to intervene, without managing to reach the ball before the goalkeeper.
Not even the seven minutes of stoppage time granted at the end change the result.
At the final whistle, it is 0-0 between Torres and Vado.
Fourth consecutive positive result for Torres
For Alfonso Greco's team, there remains above all the regret for the many opportunities created. Torres had chances with Di Stefano, Zecca, Scotto, Liviero and Pennington, but found a decisive Bellocci in their way.
The point nonetheless allows the Sassari team to continue their positive moment. After the victories against Ostiamare and Pianese and the draw in Forlì, this is indeed the fourth consecutive positive result.
However, the streak of three consecutive home wins in the league is broken: against Vado comes the first seasonal draw at Vanni Sanna.
A match that therefore leaves two different readings. On one hand, a Torres capable of producing play and creating several opportunities; on the other, the need to be more concrete in the final meters. Against an organized Vado and a Bellocci in great form, this time it was not enough.
