Poste Italiane's service allows you to arrange the shipment of suitcases and parcels entirely online, also choosing collection directly from your home or holiday location.
Luggage weighing up to 70 kilos in Italy
With Poste Delivery Web, you can ship parcels and suitcases weighing up to 70 kg within Italy and up to 30 kg for some international shipments.
The process can be completed through the Poste Italiane website or app by entering the weight, dimensions, origin address and destination.
You can then choose whether to personally drop off your luggage at a post office or Punto Poste, or request collection by a courier from the address provided.
For parcels weighing more than 30 kg, home collection is mandatory.
Your suitcase can be sent directly from your holiday location
The service can be particularly useful at the end of a holiday.
For example, those in Sardinia can ship their suitcase directly home and make the journey back with less luggage.
An appealing option especially for those travelling by air on fares that charge extra for baggage, but also for those travelling by train or motorbike, or simply preferring to travel light.
The shipment can also depart from an address other than your home, such as a hotel, holiday home or second home, provided the service's conditions are met.
The shipment can be tracked online
After departure, you can monitor the luggage's journey through the Track Shipments service, using the tracking code received at the time of purchase.
Updates can be viewed online or received via email and SMS notifications.
The paperless option is also available: when you select the enabled options, you do not need to print the waybill yourself.
An alternative for the return journey
Poste Delivery Web is not a new service, but during the summer it can become a particularly useful solution for those spending their holidays in the Sassarese area too.
The main advantage is practical: the suitcase is sent separately and delivered to the chosen address, while the traveller can make their way through the airport, port or station carrying less weight.
After days spent trying to work out how to fit everything we bought on holiday into the suitcase, there is therefore also a plan B: close it and ship it directly home.
