The 64th Alghero Scala Piccada will take place from Friday, October 16 to Sunday, October 18, with 101 entries: 91 modern cars and 10 historic cars. The hill climb, presented in Alghero on Wednesday, October 14, will be the second event in the Super CIVM, the finals of the Italian Hill Climb Speed Championship. The course on the SS 292 is 5,100 metres long.

The presentation, held in the mayor’s office in Piazza Porta Terra, was attended by Mayor Raimondo Cacciotto, City Council President Mimmo Pirisi, Alghero Foundation President Graziano Porcu and ACI Sassari President Giulio Pes di San Vittorio. Also present were race director Fabrizio Fondacci, ACI Sassari consultant Edoardo Di Lauro and driver Sergio Farris Jr, who will compete in the event.

Cacciotto linked the event to the city’s sporting history and Alghero’s relationship with motor racing, also recalling the recent Rally Italia Sardegna. Pirisi spoke of the race’s significance, as it reaches its 64th edition. Porcu said that a possible international profile was a goal, suggesting that discussions be opened with FIA officials and that the event’s appeal to tourists during the shoulder season be promoted.

Pes di San Vittorio thanked the institutions and partners involved, citing contributions from the Region and Anas. He also said work was under way to create a museum dedicated to the Scala Piccada in the former roadman’s house. Technical details announced by Fondacci included 18 prototypes, two of which will be making their Italian debut, and the participation of Italian champion Simone Faggioli. Di Lauro confirmed that drones would return to monitor the race and spectators and provide real-time coverage of the event on social media.

The surveillance system was tested at the previous edition. According to Di Lauro, it helped reduce the interval between runs by about 20 minutes and also contributed to safety; the aim is to bring this solution into the national federation’s operations. The awards ceremony is scheduled to take place in the Green Hotel’s parc fermé area. The race also recalls the 2025 edition, won by Siena-born Mirko Torsellini in a Norma M20FC, ahead of Samuele Cassibba and Franco Caruso.

For those wishing to follow the event, the announced programme includes scrutineering and a briefing on Friday, practice runs on Saturday and the two race runs on Sunday. A shuttle service for spectators is also planned, running in the morning before the event.

  • Friday, October 16: administrative checks at the Green Hotel and technical scrutineering on Via Emilio Lussu; briefing at 6:30 p.m.
  • Saturday, October 17: first practice run at 9 a.m. on the SS 292 course.
