The opera The Magic Flute by Mozart inaugurated the autumn season of the Ente de Carolis at the Teatro Comunale di Sassari, receiving wide public acclaim. The debut of the new production saw almost all 1,300 seats in the hall sold out, culminating in long applause for the entire production.
Direction and musical conducting
The production was entirely curated by Argentine director Hugo de Ana, who signed the direction, sets, lighting, and costumes. The staging was distinguished by the evocative use of video projections and a strong scenic approach. Gianluca Martinenghi took the podium of the Ente de Carolis orchestra, guiding the ensemble with clarity and transparency, in perfect harmony with the registers of the Mozartian score.
A fundamental role was played by the Ente's choir, conducted by Francesca Tosi, while the Three Genies were performed by young voices from the children's choir, prepared by maestro Salvatore Rizzu.
The cast and performances
Among the protagonists, Lisa Wittig in the role of Pamina and Francesco Lucii in the role of Tamino were highly appreciated for their sensitivity and restraint. Particular enthusiasm was sparked by Claudia Urru, the Queen of the Night, especially during the performance of the famous aria Der Hölle Rache. Rory Green brought to life a comic and popular Papageno, accompanied by Chiara Cabras in the role of Papagena.
The cast was completed by Hidenori Inoue in the role of Sarastro, Nicolas Resinelli as Monostatos, and the Three Ladies played by Grazia Sinagra, Virginia Moretti, and Laura Capretti. The production benefited from the support of the Ministry, the Region, the Municipality of Sassari, and the Fondazione di Sardegna.
After the debut, the opera returned to the stage on Sunday September 27 at 4:30 PM. The season's program will continue between October 30 and November 1 with the performance of Don Carlo by Giuseppe Verdi, consolidating the city's offering of great concerts and lyric operas.
