Sardinia is preparing a New Year 2027 increasingly conceived as a tool for tourism promotion, with Alghero chosen as the heart of a single major regional event and the other main venues across the island connected as part of the same project.
The Region has officially announced the plan “Notte di San Silvestro 2026/Capodanno in Sardegna”, which aims to bring the celebrations on the night between December 31 and January 1 live to national television.
The main venue will be Alghero, a city preparing for the 31st edition of its historic Cap d'Any, which for more than thirty years has used its major year-end event as a way to attract visitors even during the winter season.
Three million euros and a national television broadcast
To carry out the project, the Region has allocated 3 million euros to Alghero. The Municipality will be the implementing body and will coordinate the logistical, artistic and promotional aspects of the event.
This amount will be supplemented by municipal co-financing of 500,000 euros, according to reports by ANSA and RaiNews.
The most ambitious element, however, is the television component. A call for tenders will be issued for the country’s main general-interest broadcasters to produce a prime-time program, with Alghero as the central stage and connections with at least six other Sardinian venues included in the regional lineup.
To take part in the network of live connections, the cities concerned will need to have spaces capable of accommodating at least 10,000 spectators.
Sassari is preparing its New Year’s Eve
Sassari is also working to confirm the role it has earned in recent years among the main venues for New Year’s Eve celebrations in Sardinia.
After Max Pezzali’s major concert, which attracted around 35,000 people to piazzale Segni on the night between 2025 and 2026, the administration is once again aiming for a highly appealing event.
According to La Nuova Sardegna, there are reportedly advanced negotiations with Zucchero for the concert next December 31. At present, however, no official confirmation has come from the Municipality of Sassari or the artist.
The name should therefore still be regarded as a rumor, pending the finalization of the program.
New Year’s Eve as a lever for winter tourism
The decision to invest in major concerts is not driven solely by the aim of organizing a night of celebrations.
The Region now considers New Year’s Eve a genuine tourism product, capable of generating stays at accommodation facilities, work for restaurants and venues, increased use of transport, and benefits for retail and services.
According to data cited by the Regional Tourism Department, over the past two years tourist flows in Sardinia have grown by 40% during the shoulder-season months and by more than 32% between November and March.
This picture is linked to a trend already evident in the Sassari area as well, where the share of international visitors increased particularly during the summer. We discussed it in our feature on tourism in Sassari and the growth in foreign visitors.
Alghero and Sassari head toward a high-profile New Year’s Eve
The final picture is still taking shape. In Alghero, the television broadcaster, hosts and musical lineup still have to be chosen, while Sassari has yet to make the official announcement of the artist who will headline New Year’s Eve.
The direction, however, is already clear: turn New Year’s Eve into one of the events capable of bringing visitors to northern Sardinia even in the depths of winter.
Alghero will serve as the national showcase, while Sassari will seek to reaffirm the drawing power it has demonstrated in recent years. The race for New Year 2027 has only just begun, but for tourism in the area it is already shaping up to be one of the most important events of the coming winter season.
