In Nuoro on Thursday, November 5 schools, museums, the library and several public facilities will remain closed following the red weather alert. Mayor Emiliano Fenu signed an order after receiving guidance from the municipal operations center and in response to the critical-risk warning for flooding.

The measure applies to public and private schools of all levels, and includes university campuses and nurseries. The closure also extends to cultural, recreational and sports facilities: on the day specified in the order, the facilities listed by the municipality, including outdoor venues, will be closed to the public.

The measure comes amid the red alert forecast for Thursday across the eastern sectors of Sardinia. The national bulletin warns of possible heavy rainfall and thunderstorms, as well as wind gusts and hail. A similar measure is also available for the closures introduced in Olbia.

  • Public and private schools of all levels, university campuses and nurseries.
  • Municipal library, museums and play centres.
  • Parks, gyms and sports facilities, including outdoor venues; the Tommaso Podda school sports ground is also included.
  • Municipal cemetery, with an exception for the reception of the deceased and mortuary police activities.

The exception for the cemetery therefore allows activities necessary for the handling of the deceased to continue, while other forms of access covered by the order remain suspended. The measure also applies to private facilities: they are to remain closed until the red weather alert, classified as high risk, has been lifted.

The closure affects a range of services, from education to cultural and sports activities. Anyone planning to visit a school, library, museum or municipal sports facility should note the date: Thursday, November 5; private activities covered by the order are also subject to suspension. At the cemetery, only the specified functions for receiving the deceased and mortuary police activities will remain operational.
