Sardinia is looking for workers: over 41,000 positions expected between July and September

Summer continues to be one of the most dynamic periods for the labour market in Sardinia. According to the Excelsior Information System of Unioncamere and the Ministry of Labour, between July and September 2026 businesses across the island expect a total of 41,670 job entries, including around 20,550 in July alone.

Demand is concentrated above all in the services sector, which in July accounts for 84% of expected entries in Sardinia. This figure is closely linked to the tourist season and activities connected with accommodation, catering, retail and services.

Sassari leads demand for workers

The area of Sassari records the highest figures: Excelsior estimates 9,390 entries in July and 17,240 over the entire July–September period. In the Sassari area, the share attributable to services reaches as much as 88.7% of expected entries.

Cagliari follows, with 16,860 entries expected over the quarter, followed by Nuoro with 4,630 and Oristano with 2,950.

The trend was already evident in previous surveys: for the June–August 2026 period, in fact, Excelsior estimated a total of 55,400 entries in Sardinia, 25,600 of them in the province of Sassari.

The challenge of finding workers

However, high demand is accompanied by an increasingly structural problem: finding the workers required by businesses. In July, 40% of the positions sought in Sardinia are identified by companies as difficult to fill.

This situation is particularly significant during the summer months, when the regional tourism system reaches its peak of activity and the need for workers grows at the same time.

The Sardinia Region has also addressed the issue with SO.LA.RE. Sardegna 2026, a €21 million measure aimed at supporting businesses in the tourism supply chain through incentives for fixed-term and permanent hires and for the stabilisation of precarious or seasonal workers.
