A new agreement to guarantee veterinary care for Sassari’s injured or sick stray cats.
The Municipality has allocated €36,000 to entrust the service to a private veterinary clinic, with the aim of ensuring faster intervention when animals in the area need treatment.
The measure was adopted by the Environment Department at the initiative of the municipal administration and the Department for Ecological Transition.
Veterinary facility open until 8 p.m.
The agreement provides for the veterinary facility to be available from Monday to Saturday, from 9 a.m. to 8 p.m..
On Sundays, the service may operate during the same hours, but only in the event of extraordinary emergencies.
The Municipality describes the initiative as an initial response to the needs of the associations and citizens who deal with the stray cats in the city on a daily basis.
How to report an injured or sick cat
Citizens will not be able to access the clinic directly.
Reports will be handled by the AEOPC zoophile guards, who will assess the situation and then activate the affiliated veterinary facility.

The involvement of the zoophile guards will help coordinate interventions and direct to the clinic the animals that actually require care.
While awaiting the university veterinary emergency service
The new agreement comes as discussions continue between the Municipality, health authorities and the University of Sassari to find a solution that will allow the university veterinary emergency service to expand its operations.
The administration therefore considers the agreement with the private facility an immediate measure, designed to prevent injured or sick stray cats from being left without adequate care.
An issue that concerns not only animal welfare, but also the management of stray animals and the protection of public health in the Sassari area.
