Sassari, works in the city centre from 31 August: roads closed and changes to ATP buses

New works and consequent changes to traffic in central Sassari. From Monday 31 August to Friday 4 September 2026, Abbanoa will be carrying out road-surface restoration after the excavations made to lay the new water mains.

The works are scheduled from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m., barring unforeseen circumstances, and will entail temporary closures on some of the main roads in the city centre.

Which roads will be closed

The restrictions will affect four areas.

On piazza Colonnello Serra, the section between viale Trieste and the Mercato roundabout will be closed in the downhill direction.

Traffic will also be stopped on viale Umberto, again in the downhill direction, between via Cagliari and viale Trieste.

The works will also affect largo Brigata Sassari, in the uphill direction starting from via Enrico Costa, and via Cagliari, on the section between via Cavour and viale Umberto.

The closures will be implemented in sections and only for as long as necessary to carry out the works.

Changes also affect ATP routes

The construction sites will also affect Sassari’s public transport.

The same sections affected by the closures will in fact be off-limits to ATP vehicles, inevitably resulting in changes to the usual routes of lines crossing the area.

The Municipality explained that the works were planned in coordination with Abbanoa also with the aim of minimising inconvenience for public transport users as much as possible and completing the works before the start of the school year.

No-parking restrictions and alternative routes

In addition to the road closures, a no-parking restriction on both sides of the carriageway will be introduced in the affected sections.

Pedestrian access to homes and businesses, as well as the passage of emergency vehicles, will remain guaranteed.

Signs will be installed in the affected areas to direct motorists towards alternative routes.

A challenging week for traffic in the heart of Sassari is therefore expected: anyone who needs to cross the city centre between 31 August and 4 September should allow for possible delays and changes to their usual routes.
